MOMENT FOR PRAYER

Prayer is a most important aspect of our faith. Prayer is of course a very personal thing. There are no right and wrongs ways of going about it - so long as You are praying to our God and Father or to the Lord Jesus or to the Holy Spirit - one God, three persons.

Our congregation's prayer diary, (issued 2 or 3 times a year), is an aid to prayer - mainly to help us in our prayers for others and to keep us from being too self-centred in our prayers. Here are some we would like to share with you.

Spring 2010

In Christ alone my hope if found,
He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand!
Stuart Townsend 2001
Lord, help us to be humble in our service, patient in difficulties, understanding is the face of insults and persevering when the way is hard.

M.A.F. Prayer Diary
Dear Heavenly Father, we are all easily broken as humans.....easy to crumble. Lord, you made us, you know what it takes to heal that places that are broken, underused and weak. We give you our physical, emotional and spiritual wounds and ask for you touch, your breath and your mercy to cover them. Heal us Lord, in Jesus' name. Amen.
CrossReach Prayer Letter
Lord, we thank you that when all manner of things in all aspects of life are seemingly out of control, you have called us to walk by faith and not by sight. We thank you when sight would tell us things are impossible, faith assures us with you all things are possible; when sight tells us everything is pointless, faith fills us with hope only found in you; when sight would indicate our circumstances should crush us, faith provides peace beyond understanding, joy without measure and strength which surpasses our own. We thank you that all these blessings are ours because of your Son Jesus. Amen. Crossreach Prayer Letter. Father, we hold up to you all the suffering people of the world, from those on our own door-step to those in distant lands. We pray especially for the people of Haiti and all who are reaching out to them with help, hope and healing. Also we ask for peace for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq and other troubled countries where so many lives are being lost. Send your Holy Spirit Lord, to light up the darkness in our world. Amen. We hold up to you your church world-wide and pray for your Spirit to move powerfully through it. We pray especially for your people at Whitburn South as our Minister and her husband plan towards a time of retirement. We give you thanks for their work and witness in the time they have been with us and pray that you will bless, guide and direct them both in whatever ways they may be called to continue in your service in the future. We ask these things in Jesus' precious name. Amen.
If God brings you to it,
He will bring you through it.
HE is in control - even when we think that WE are:
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed.
Mahatma Gandhi
Beloved, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors.
James 5:9
Almighty God, help us to see through the barriers and injustices that divide us; May we strive towards the unity that Christ desires for the world. Amen.
World Mission Council
In the name of Jesus Christ, friend and hope of the poor, grant us a holy discontent so long as even one of your children is help captive by poverty, and give us courage to act in ways which are true to our Lord Jesus Christ and the future He has promised.
W.M. 13
Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

John Fawcett, 1740-1817
Bow down before Him,
Love and adore Him,
His name is wonderful,
Jesus my Lord!
Lead us Father, into freedom,
From despair your world release; That, redeemed from war and hatred, Men may come and go in peace. Show us how through care and goodness, Fear will die and hope increase.
May the Lord continually bless you with heaven's blessings as well as with human joys.

Psalm 128:5
